Check-In Time?

The following are the respective times in which boarders must check into their dormitories.
  • Preps (Freshmen), Lowers (Sophomores): Sunday thru Friday - 8PM.
  • Uppers (Juniors): Sunday thru Friday - 9 PM.
  • Seniors: Sunday thru Friday - 10 PM.
  • For all students, Saturday check-in is at 11PM.
  • On Fridays with no Saturday classes the following day, check-in is at 10PM.
At those times, Day students must also check into the Academy Center (a building where the Day Student 'common room' resides).

What is your opinion on this schedule? If you are opposed to it, how would you change it?

  1. There was an article in the Exonian today and apparently Student Council wants to cut all those check-in times by 30 minutes while starting classes half an hour later. I am all for it. It is definitely worth the sacrifice. As for the schedule now, I think it is perfectly appropriate. Except maybe seniors should be able to check in a little later.

  2. Day Students at no time have to check-in anywhere...

Why are you so severely uninformed? You are probably a prep and have been here for six months.

  3. I'm an Upper, and because of homework, I generally am in the dorm around 8, and sometimes after dinner.

so the check in times are fine.

And like the previous comment mentioned, they might make the day start later - fantastic!

  5. There's nothing going on in Exeter, NH on the weekends so although its kind of lame that the nightlife on saturday night ends at 11, its not like we're missing out on anything

  6. i don't think this blog is helpful at all.
the only reason people make blogs is to DRAW ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES, or have an OUTLET. this is both. it was already written up in the exonian, and everyone said it was neither good nor bad, just because they didn;t want challenge ppl who were sp[eaking the truth, even though THIS IS MOSTLY LIES.

personally, i think PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS AWESOME
    and
    THIS BLOG TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
    from,
the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog

  7. I think this 'rational person with a brain enough' is himself being irrational and pea-brained. How in the world is the administrator supposed to draw attention to hismelf ie he/she is anonymous? How can you show that this school's rep is getting trashed, when the polls clearly say that more people would return to Exeter than don't? And if you sift through the topics, most of the comments are optimistic and helpful rather than purposefully degrating. I think you yourself are the one that's CAUSING this blog to suck and you're the one who's giving the school a bad name because it proves that our school unfortunately houses 'IDOT' students like yourself. I hope you meant to spell it correctly and say 'idiot' rather tha IDOT? sounds like some apple product.

If you love this school so much, go post some reasons that could convince applicants to come here.

-Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell.

p.s. the negative comments about this school are usually true and they're more of what this school needs improvement on rather than this school sucking for it
p.p.s. the poll is would you RETURN to Exeter. A lot of students were encouraged or even forced by their parents to come here, and the poll asks if they would return if they had a choice.
Also, you could enjoy a life-changing experience but not want to go through it again. I'm extremely happy that I came here because I learned so much. But would I do four more years here? I don't think so. I'd definitely want my kids to come here though, but again, it's just for the one-time experience.

  8. Going back to the StuCo proposal mentioned earlier... I'm sure everyone is in favor of the extra sleep time in the mornings, but why does an earlier check-in time necessarily have to be included in the plan? I mean, I guess it's sort of an appeasement to faculty that we're going to be responsible about the whole thing, but I don't really see what it has to do with getting extra sleep. I mean, I doubt I would start my homework any earlier or later just because I'm checked in half an hour early, and it means that everything that takes place outside the dorms after dinner (music, extracurriculars, and just plain free time) gets compressed even further.
