The purpose of this site is for anonymous students, alumni, and/or faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy to openly and honestly discuss the Pros and Cons of their experience at this elite boarding school (whether it be one of love, hatred, pleasure, disappointment, or a mix of the four) in order to provide future applicants with more first-hand information about this school than what is simply stated on private school review websites. This website is under construction.
E/A weekend is super-fun.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had freshman/novice teams. then more ppl would get a chance to play. so if you don't make jv, you cna still keep in shape and play, so you can make jv next year.
I wish indorr soccer wasn't on the same night as some of the orchestras. How annoying.
i don't think this blog is helpful at all.
ReplyDeletethe only reason people make blogs is to DRAW ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES, or have an OUTLET. this is both. it was already written up in the exonian, and everyone said it was neither good nor bad, just because they didn;t want challenge ppl who were sp[eaking the truth, even though THIS IS MOSTLY LIES.
personally, i think PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS AWESOME
and
THIS BLOG TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
from,
the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog
I think this 'rational person with a brain enough' is himself being irrational and pea-brained. How in the world is the administrator supposed to draw attention to hismelf ie he/she is anonymous? How can you show that this school's rep is getting trashed, when the polls clearly say that more people would return to Exeter than don't? And if you sift through the topics, most of the comments are optimistic and helpful rather than purposefully degrating. I think you yourself are the one that's CAUSING this blog to suck and you're the one who's giving the school a bad name because it proves that our school unfortunately houses 'IDOT' students like yourself. I hope you meant to spell it correctly and say 'idiot' rather tha IDOT? sounds like some apple product.
ReplyDeleteIf you love this school so much, go post some reasons that could convince applicants to come here.
-Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell.
p.s. the negative comments about this school are usually true and they're more of what this school needs improvement on rather than this school sucking for it
p.p.s. the poll is would you RETURN to Exeter. A lot of students were encouraged or even forced by their parents to come here, and the poll asks if they would return if they had a choice.
Also, you could enjoy a life-changing experience but not want to go through it again. I'm extremely happy that I came here because I learned so much. But would I do four more years here? I don't think so. I'd definitely want my kids to come here though, but again, it's just for the one-time experience.
Oy, knock it off both of you. Flame wars are unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteOn a more relevant note, I think Exeter's sports teams are pretty good over-all. Some of the teams, swimming and diving, men's waterpolo, and cycling to name a few, have histories of outstanding performance in their respective leagues. The track and field and cross-country teams are also quite good. Indoor track regularly crushes Andover in the winter, and spring track is usually in the top three at the New England Prep School Track Assoc. championships.
Exeter doesn't actually recruit. While athletics might factor into an application as in a "well-balanced individual" kind of way, students aren't actively sought for their athletic prowess.
^^^^^^^^
ReplyDeleteagreed. this blog is getting out of hand. people who hate it, people who love it, and horrible things about the school.
and exeter does look for people who are good in sports, they just have to be well,"smart," too
In terms of non-interscholastic sports,
ReplyDeleteQuadball>Cilleyball
That is all.
whoever said this school doesn't recruit is obviously not a member of any of the successful sports teams at this school. go have a conversation with a hockey PG and tell me he isn't here because he can skate
ReplyDeletewell in regards to the blog, i just realized that the poll on the side asks the letter grade we'd give Exeter... and at the bottom it lists "F".. when any good exonian would know we give Es here.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks, you can't get on to any teams. This may be because I am weak and a bit pudgy and weigh 133 even though im 5' tall. but i dont think so. I think the sport recruiters are just stupid.
ReplyDeleteand question...does jacking off effect your athletic ability in a negative way? that may be why I can't get on to any team either...
ReplyDeleteIt actually does
ReplyDeleteto one of the previous anons... have you ever had a conversation with a hockey PG?
ReplyDeleteunfortunately our sports teams kind of suck because exeter doesnt recruit.. the boys (and girls) have to actually get in
actually exeter does recruit what are you talkng about
ReplyDeleteI know that Exeter does in fact recruit heavily for some of their sports teams. Boys Ice Hockey is notorious for their recruiting process and how hockey recruits can get in even if they are really dumb. Also, girls ice hockey recruits, and they're some hockey girls that are very unintelligent and would not have gotten into this school if they were not good at hockey. The same holds true for boys hockey, football, and boys lacrosse.
ReplyDeleteand BOYS BASKETBALL. I mean they do compete in the most competitve league in the nation in Class A and more than a couple of them wouldn't even be in the conversation without basketball.
ReplyDeletegirls ice hockey recruiting is odd. the coach sends the adcom a list of 8 top recruits, and one of my friends were on that list. she didn't get in exeter (waitlist), even though she's brilliant. it might have something to do with financial aid, though..
ReplyDeleteAll of the Exeter major sports teams do recruit and the recruited athletes don't need to meet the same academic standards as other students. A Harkness discussion in which there are 4-6 recruited athletes and/or PG's is hilariously backwards compared to classes without those characters.

ReplyDeleteMy brother and I both attended Exeter and I can confirm that Exeter does recruit athletes and that they have lower admissions standards for those individuals. Most PG's academic performance and classroom proficiency were notably beneath their peers, and some were actually stupid.
ReplyDeleteThis didn't necessarily effect their ability to matriculate at good colleges as Exeter made sure to create classes where they were generally segregated from the rest of the seniors.
As a three sport athlete, I can attest that the recruiting process goes on in many sports as we used to laugh about it. During the Exeter-Andover hockey game my brother's senior year, Andies threw Canadian newspapers at our bench in protest of the amount of recruited PG's we had. I can't really think of a sport where there wasn't some recruiting happening.
One word of advise for prospective PG's, don't count on your Exeter coach following through with any promises or words of encouragement during the application process. The current lacrosse coach, Bill Glennon, is a snake. Bring back Bergofski!
