The purpose of this site is for anonymous students, alumni, and/or faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy to openly and honestly discuss the Pros and Cons of their experience at this elite boarding school (whether it be one of love, hatred, pleasure, disappointment, or a mix of the four) in order to provide future applicants with more first-hand information about this school than what is simply stated on private school review websites. This website is under construction.
It has recently come to my attention that the Admissions office of Phillips Exeter Academy initiated a policy in the early 1980's about the female students it accepts. Following the addition of female students in the 1970's, the overall Grade Point Average of the Academy dropped. This led the admissions office to an extremely illogical conclusion. Instead of seeing that the addition of females robbed numerous, more intelligent, young men of a chance at an Exeter education, the admissions officers decided that well-rounded and reasonably attractive girls were distracting the current boys from their studies. The solution to this growing problem was a policy to only admit female students that received an attractiveness rating of less than 5 on the 10 point scale set up by the all-male admissions staff. As a result, Phillips Exeter has been rated by prepschoolunderground.com as the school with the ugliest girls for all 7 years the site has been in existence.
ReplyDeleteEvery once in a while, a girl that was an ugly and awkward freshman blossoms into a fine young lady as she enters her upper or senior year. As a result, there exists a small dating scene on campus. To combat this, the administration instituted the most ridiculous Visitations system possible. You are allowed to spend alone time with your significant other or less than an hour a day, and that is only if the faculty on-duty decides to show up on time. Once in your room, its lights on, door open and 3 feet on the floor. For anyone out there that had a complete childhood and experienced teenage dating (which is crucial to adult development) you can picture how this ridiculous system inhibits teenage development and fun altogether. Andover allows your child to just sign in his or her girlfriend and trusts you to be responsible, but allows for natural teenage behavior.
Sincerely,
FUCKEXETER
I concur with many of your thoughts, but do you have any statistical evidence on the way they admitted girls who were rated less than 5 on the 10 point scale? The reason I accuse you of speculating is because there are astoundingly many 9th and 10th grade girls who are beautiful. I am not a creep because I am a prep.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, the grade point average drop is a natural phenomenon that cuold've been caused by so many other factors. One example is the boom of communications technology, which boosted distraction levels and brought down average test grades in at least the science department (my science teacher told me so last year).
the boys ain't that great either..
ReplyDeleteSays the ugly girl...
ReplyDeletethe boys at this fine institution are the future of our nation. We will grow up to be the CEOs and presidents of corporations and the president of the United States itself.
green is an ugly color on you...
After extensive research in the futile hopes of proving anonymous #1 wrong, I concede defeat. Unfortunately, I have found irrefutable sources verifying every word.
ReplyDeletePreps no nothing. The average quality of girl is WAY WAY WAY below a 5. My statistic? Sit down at any table in any dhall and ask the guys how many hot girls there are... you'll come up with 15 max, now out of 500 girls? that is .03% of the population...
ReplyDeleteI mean 3%
ReplyDeletegosh. um. if you want to date you can date.. but the tradition of going to EP in the church is wierd.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, i'd say a 5 all round. and you could ask guys, but they'll pretend to be picky on purpose.
for your information the prep and lower classes combined have no more than 400 and I know at least 40 girls that are above average. that is a 10% compared to anonymous #1's comment about every single girl being under a 5.
ReplyDeleteLol prep number one is a loser
ReplyDeleteu say the girls are ugly? has anyone even looked at the guys?
ReplyDeleteWhile the reasons may not be known, the girls here leave much to be desired.
ReplyDeleteHEY! leave the prep alone.
ReplyDeleteHe's probably just from Alaska or something. All they have is Eskimos Seals and Sarah Palin.
No he is not a loser (whoever said that)
its just his first time seeing a female.
Well, I have to say, the students at Andover, I find, are far more attractive/have better relationships than those I've seen/met/heard about at Exeter. But, this is no more than observation, I could be a complete liar.
ReplyDeleteAll the comments posted so far are about the attractiveness of students when the blog's original question was "How easy/difficult is it to find time for your mate here?"
ReplyDeleteI think the question asked is more important than the one being discussed because it is the bigger problem.
Regardless of whether you find the people here good enough to date, the ones that would be good enough to date, you have no time to really do so. I know very few examples of students in relationships who have been willing to make the necessary sacrifices to make time for dating.
Dating is a somewhat important part of being a teenager but when you have to choose between doing your best academically and taking the time to go on a date, its clear which one is really most important. It's too bad that we don't get enough free time to have a chance to do both.
^Exactly. That's my greatest gripe with Exeter.
ReplyDeleteWe have the rest of our lives to be mechanical corporate drones who work non-stop in pursuit of a position of power which we somehow think will bring us fulfillment. Our teenage years are supposed to be about fun and finding out who we truly are. Not at Exeter.
It's a great school, but that in itself is the problem. It creates a rigorous academic lifestyle forces us to exclude other, infinitely more valuable experiences from our lives.
i don't think this blog is helpful at all.
ReplyDeletethe only reason people make blogs is to DRAW ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES, or have an OUTLET. this is both. it was already written up in the exonian, and everyone said it was neither good nor bad, just because they didn;t want challenge ppl who were sp[eaking the truth, even though THIS IS MOSTLY LIES.
personally, i think PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS AWESOME
and
THIS BLOG TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
from,
the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog
I think this 'rational person with a brain enough' is himself being irrational and pea-brained. How in the world is the administrator supposed to draw attention to hismelf ie he/she is anonymous? How can you show that this school's rep is getting trashed, when the polls clearly say that more people would return to Exeter than don't? And if you sift through the topics, most of the comments are optimistic and helpful rather than purposefully degrating. I think you yourself are the one that's CAUSING this blog to suck and you're the one who's giving the school a bad name because it proves that our school unfortunately houses 'IDOT' students like yourself. I hope you meant to spell it correctly and say 'idiot' rather tha IDOT? sounds like some apple product.
ReplyDeleteIf you love this school so much, go post some reasons that could convince applicants to come here.
-Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell.
p.s. the negative comments about this school are usually true and they're more of what this school needs improvement on rather than this school sucking for it
p.p.s. the poll is would you RETURN to Exeter. A lot of students were encouraged or even forced by their parents to come here, and the poll asks if they would return if they had a choice.
Also, you could enjoy a life-changing experience but not want to go through it again. I'm extremely happy that I came here because I learned so much. But would I do four more years here? I don't think so. I'd definitely want my kids to come here though, but again, it's just for the one-time experience.
I've been in three serious relationships at Exeter. Each of the people I've dated are quite attractive, and they aren't particularly unique in that regard. Like the rest of the world, Exeter has both attractive and unattractive people, but to say that Exeter is *full* of ugly people would be downright false.
ReplyDeleteAddendum to the above:
ReplyDeleteYes, it is possible to actually have a well-developed relationship beyond sex. You just need to realize that you can't spend every single waking hour glued to your significant other.

ReplyDeletei havent yet to see anyone male or female that is "ugly" everyone here is slightly attractive at the least. and just saying some of the guys are VERY attractive
ReplyDeleteFirst poster you are completely incorrect I know many beautiful girls that go to exeter. i love a few of them and think they are amazing. you have no grounds for that assumption.
ReplyDeleteI've been here for 4 years, and the girls here on average aren't "ugly" per se, but they are unattractive. The fact that the term "exeter goggles" got created says something to this effect. So I guess I agree with the first poster.
ReplyDeleteprepschoolunderground.com doesn't even exist...
ReplyDeleteso it seems to me that everyone here thinks that the dating is not all that great. This saddens me becuasae i believe that dating is a major part of being in highschool. Can someone give me some light on the dating scene at Exeter? any positive experiences? Are people open to dating or is it more like they ahve too much work?
ReplyDeleteIt's down to your priorities. It's really easy to get too caught up in either academics or dating. Honestly the quality of the experience with dating at exeter is down to how much experience you've gained at being at exeter, or at least how good you've gotten at being here. Ie my dating lower fall was a much less balanced and good thing than my dating my upper winter. also we do have attractive people. of both genders. (woot bisexuality) Really, the whole thing varies from amazing to really horrible. luck of the draw and what you're ready for. also the Vs policy is a joke and we all know it (though that depends on the dorm)
DeleteIm goin to exeter next year, im used to dating the hottest girls in my school pr at least girls who are a 7 or up. Are you people serious that theres no hot girls at exeter? That would be awful sum one hit me back i need to know
ReplyDeleteHoney you are not getting laid talking like that. maybe lower year.
DeleteI'm a girl at Exeter, and as far as I'm aware, the term "Exeter Goggles" refers to the goggles the girls view the boys through. Maybe the same is true in reverse, but I haven't heard of it. Regardless, I think there are plenty of attractive people of both sexes here.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, guys use that term all the time.
DeleteI will say that there are Exeter Goggles and then there are Wetherall Goggles... yeesh
Good grief! Pick up a book. Don't be in such a hurry to grow up.
