The purpose of this site is for anonymous students, alumni, and/or faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy to openly and honestly discuss the Pros and Cons of their experience at this elite boarding school (whether it be one of love, hatred, pleasure, disappointment, or a mix of the four) in order to provide future applicants with more first-hand information about this school than what is simply stated on private school review websites. This website is under construction.
R u a guy or a girl
ReplyDeleteu should take this website off the web. I am going post some questionable (yet true) material which would deffer most any applicant (or at least their parents) from Exeter. You are simply hurting the school's name. And why in the world are smurfs (people from andover) allowed to write bad stuff about Exeter with the same credit as a distinguished Exoian?
ReplyDeleteLike studentsreview.com and ratemyteacher.com, anyone anywhere could post on this website. This provides more than enough reason to argue that this blog as unreliable. That's why I will ask that people post here with at least a little explanation of why s/he may feel that way, rather than simply stating 'this school sucks' or vice versa.
ReplyDeleteAnd please feel free to post your 'questionable yet true material' as long as it is appropriate. Remember, this is an open forum. Criticism about Exeter is just as welcome as praise.
so are you saying that you will remove "this school sucks"? Using your logic you should then also remove "this school is awesome"?
ReplyDeletethis school is awesome
ReplyDeleteEP (evening prayer) is a place students at exeter usually take a date. This is bad because it takes a religious event (we pray to god) and turns it into a dating service
ReplyDeleteI will remove neither. If you can please elaborate on why you feel the way you do then that would be appreciated. If you insist that this school sucks, please explain. The same applies for anything else.
ReplyDeleteAgain, the only comments I will cut out are ones that are clearly inappropriate or plain spam.
"Exonian", you are clearly an uneducated prep. Try living here for several more years before you critique the school.
ReplyDeletefirst of all
ReplyDeletewhy is the default vote
for "would you return to this school"
NO
and second, who is this?
now who the f thinks that EP is seriously a religious event?
ReplyDeleteand how is that bad in the first place?
because its religious?
how uneducated you are makes me laugh
Topics:
ReplyDeleteThe quality of dating and the opposite sex in general at Exeter
Teacher's political leanings and if it effects the classroom.
Best/Worst experiences at Exeter, and how you dealt with them.
To be honest, I like the intentions of this blog: that is to educate applicants and give them a more clear picture of what Exeter is. I think that would have certainly been helpful when I was considering coming here. What I worry about is that the context of this blog and the topics provided simply allow for criticism. By posting about innately controversial topics, you are in fact creating a forum where students and others can anonymously rag about the school or dispel their own disdain, which frankly, I don't believe is an accurate picture of what Exeter is. With that in mind, maybe it would make more sense if applicants could ask questions of students, who would in turn reply honestly to a person whom they know they are affecting, rather than just posting a blatant criticism without a humanized audience.
ReplyDelete"By posting about innately controversial topics, you are in fact creating a forum where students and others can anonymously rag about the school or dispel their own disdain, which frankly, I don't believe is an accurate picture of what Exeter is."
ReplyDeleteIt would be helpful if you could provide all of us with sufficient proof. No school is perfect and all schools will receive negative criticism in every aspect. But as the Associate Director of Admissions Lee Young mentioned today in the school paper, the good comments are overwhelming the bad. The poll 'would you return to this school' speaks for itself.
As for improvement, there should be something regarding Sports.
As a post note, how would you think the applicants would simply be able to have access to students inside the school to ask questions to? That's already covered by our tour guides I think.
ReplyDelete"now who the f thinks that EP is seriously a religious event?
ReplyDeleteand how is that bad in the first place?

Now, I can cite other comments on this blog that provide evidence that much of what is written here is not constructive for prospective students and their families, but this one is pulled directly from this conversation.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for giving as accurate a representation of Exeter as possible, even when that includes negative feedback. What I worry about is that here, students tend to report more negatively because it's easier to focus on (seeing as it is a less predominant part of our experience), therefore giving prospective students an inaccurately negative view of the school.
I could be wrong, but it seems that this has the potential of being the wrong format for conveying this type of valuable information.
we both understand that that comment has nothing to do with the improvement of this blog so it is the administrator's job to delete it. and if something is a less predominant part of our experience, the nature of the human brain is usually to overlook and bury it in the unconscious. Just remember that if this blog were filled with positive comments, those who disagree would claim that applicants would get the wrong impression of the school when in reality they believe the school isn't all that great.
ReplyDeleteNo blog is perfect and this one certainly should not be the applicants' sole determining factor of applying to this school. It is useful nonetheless because this is where the true Exeter opinion and experience is released.
If you think this school is going to get a reputation lower than what it deserves, boost it with some positive comments. I certainly have.
To the second person who believes that smurfs will post on this site, how exactly do you think they will find this site?
ReplyDeleteAre you that conceited that smurfs spend their free time looking for academy sites to read?
Due to the recent article in the Exonian, of the bloggers on this site, most will be Exonians.
Make people say who they are, from what school.
ReplyDeleteAlso, boarding school review . com has a rating option, with a lot of more targeted questions about student life, food, etc.
So, since theirs is more reliable, and more findable, i think most people will just use that.

"Exonian", instead of making it an open blog, where anyone can post anonymously (and since you spent the time to set up the site), posts should go an intermediate phase, where you can pick and choose to upload the constructive comments and delete erroneous claims.
ReplyDeleteWould you want someone applying here to see what has been written on this site in the past twenty four hours? If you do, I understand that you do not have the best interests of this school in mind, and would rather undermine the admissions process.
The problem with the comment at 7:54 PM is that boardingschoolreview.com, though comprehensive, lacks any direct student input. Perhaps this blog and that website could go hand-in-hand. Also, if the administrator makes people state their names and schools, that would lead to even more chaos as people would start disguising their comments as other students or even faculty.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 7:57. Look over comments before they are posted.
this blog is pretty donkey.
ReplyDeletei don't think this blog is helpful at all.
ReplyDeletethe only reason people make blogs is to DRAW ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES, or have an OUTLET. this is both. it was already written up in the exonian, and everyone said it was neither good nor bad, just because they didn;t want challenge ppl who were sp[eaking the truth, even though THIS IS MOSTLY LIES.
personally, i think PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS AWESOME
and
THIS BLOG TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
from,
the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog
AND ANY IDOT WHO CLICKED "NO" ON THE POLL THAT SAYS "WOULD YOU RETURN TO THIS SCHOOL?" EITHER DOESN'T GO HERE (PROBABLY ANDOVER) OR REALLY IS AN IDOT. IF YOU DISLIKED IT THAT MUCH YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT.
ReplyDeleteTHIS BLOGGER'S POLLS ARE IDOTIC TAUNTS ASKING FOR PEOPLE TO DISS THIS SCHOOL WITH WRITTING ANYTHING. PPL ARE A MAKING A JOKE OUT OF THIS.
THE BLOGGER NEEDS GET A LIFE AND TRANSFER TO ANDOVER, WHERE THEY LIKE IDOTS LIKE YOU.

the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog
AND F***EXETER @#%#&!!?#$%
ReplyDeleteI AM ABOVE USING PROFANITY IN A PUBLIC FORUM.
SO SHUT UP
AND I CAN'T TELL YOU TO GO TO ANDOVER BECAUSE YOU ARE PROBABLY ALREADY THERE.

the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog
I feel like this blog had the potential to be a useful tool, but is instead rapidly deteriorating into a every-man-for-himself dissfest. I didn't realize how immature other Exonians could be.
ReplyDeleteI think this 'rational person with a brain enough' is himself being irrational and pea-brained. How in the world is the administrator supposed to draw attention to hismelf ie he/she is anonymous? How can you show that this school's rep is getting trashed, when the polls clearly say that more people would return to Exeter than don't? And if you sift through the topics, most of the comments are optimistic and helpful rather than purposefully degrating. I think you yourself are the one that's CAUSING this blog to suck and you're the one who's giving the school a bad name because it proves that our school unfortunately houses 'IDOT' students like yourself. I hope you meant to spell it correctly and say 'idiot' rather tha IDOT? sounds like some apple product.
ReplyDeleteIf you love this school so much, go post some reasons that could convince applicants to come here.
-Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell.
p.s. the negative comments about this school are usually true and they're more of what this school needs improvement on rather than this school sucking for it
p.p.s. the poll is would you RETURN to Exeter. A lot of students were encouraged or even forced by their parents to come here, and the poll asks if they would return if they had a choice.
Also, you could enjoy a life-changing experience but not want to go through it again. I'm extremely happy that I came here because I learned so much. But would I do four more years here? I don't think so. I'd definitely want my kids to come here though, but again, it's just for the one-time experience.
forced by their parents? are you kidding me? most people i know wanted to go here and their parents wanted them to stay home.
ReplyDeleteand some of these negative commments are just bogus. i mean have you read the "quality of dating" forum. it's a joke. and don't harp on spelling. a person who wrote in all-caps obvi didn't care a bout minute things like that. you're just painting a bad picture of anyone who has a couple of choice things to say about this blog.
i agree-
the blogger needs to get a life
Well maybe you have no friends because many people I know were forced by their parents and the fact that their parents wanted them to stay home is false. If the anonymous person doesn't care about spelling then the person is putting no seriousness into his comments whatsoever and should either make a coherent argument that's not in all caps or ignore this blog completely, which I hope he (and you above) will do. As for the blogger.. I'm pretty sure he/she would've intervened by now and deleted your comment if he/she even cared.
ReplyDeletepeople like YOU give the school a bad name.
I repeat,YOU get a life and get out of this blog if you think it's so unhelpful. I don't know why people are accusing the administrator when his/her SOLE purpose was to create a site where people can talk about Exeter. What possible wrong is there in such an action? Is he/she PERSONALLY writing negative comments? is he/she PERSONALLY conniving to give the school a bad name?
im gonna guess the person named dan kane isnt really dan kane because dan kane is a prep, and doesnt live on campus,
ReplyDeleteWow, where was this blog when I was dismissed from the school in 1999? Crazy stories, but I don't think I'd share them online. They are so horrendous that best left kept hidden away. Good luck to all out there at this institution. It's a tough place, but major props to all those who survive and thrive! If you're paying all that money you may as well try to enjoy it :)
