The controversy here is that the school still holds over $800 million, which is more or less an endowment of $800,000 per student. To what degree are the necessary steps actually necessary?

Wage Freeze?
Tyler Tingley, Principal of the Academy, recently reported that the school's $1 billion plus endowment dropped by 21.8%. Albeit the figure is less than Standard and Poor's 37% drop, Tingley urged that the school cut next year's spending by $6 million; that would require a wage freeze for both new and veteran faculty. An anonymous source stated that this would also certainly call for job slashing, starting from part-time behind-the-scene workers who are most likely to be left standing in the unemployment line within a few months. The Exonian also reported that entire classes such as Russian and Archaeology are prone to slashage.

firstly, i believe that a freeze is neecessary
ReplyDeletesecondly, who is this?
unfair bull that's what it is
ReplyDeletewe should have a student vote on what teachers to fire.
ReplyDeleteI agree. anonymous vote.
ReplyDeleteThey're not going to be firing any teachers. It will be the people we (the students) don't really interact with on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteClearly they will go first but what about part-time teachers? I have a parttime health teacher who only teaches twice or three times a week
ReplyDeleteto answer the question though, I think the school shouldn't fire anyone. We have enough money and we have enough other ways to save money.. for example food. everyone knows how much food is wasted each day. and random funds that only end up being wasted on random, unproductive club projects. this school clearly has enough money to function normally without a wage freeze too. What of the teachers who have been here for twenty, thirty, forty years? very illegitimate. I look forward to the new principal's plans in the coming years.
ReplyDeleteplease excuse any economic naivete on my part...
ReplyDeletep.e.a. seems like it ought to have adequate financial stabilty to absorb the problems of an economic downturn. wouldn't it be most beneficial for us to act normally? wouldn't it be "for the greater good" if we let people keep their jobs, and did our part to stimulate the economy, instead of cutting off so many people directly affected by our spending?
the only idea i've liked so far is the plan to add more fully-paid tuitions to the annual revenue. i would rather be 100% needs-blind. but we could try to maintain our current number of financial aid students and deal with the burden of a few more full-paying kids to teach/house/etc. in last week's exonian it said we'd had an elevated number of students in the past, so why not give that a try...
you are not naive at all, above comment. I agree and like what the Exonian released, we should get rid of the fish tank.
ReplyDeletei don't think this blog is helpful at all.
ReplyDeletethe only reason people make blogs is to DRAW ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES, or have an OUTLET. this is both. it was already written up in the exonian, and everyone said it was neither good nor bad, just because they didn;t want challenge ppl who were sp[eaking the truth, even though THIS IS MOSTLY LIES.
personally, i think PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS AWESOME
and
THIS BLOG TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
from,
the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog
AND I LOVE THE FISH TANK
I think this 'rational person with a brain enough' is himself being irrational and pea-brained. How in the world is the administrator supposed to draw attention to hismelf ie he/she is anonymous? How can you show that this school's rep is getting trashed, when the polls clearly say that more people would return to Exeter than don't? And if you sift through the topics, most of the comments are optimistic and helpful rather than purposefully degrating. I think you yourself are the one that's CAUSING this blog to suck and you're the one who's giving the school a bad name because it proves that our school unfortunately houses 'IDOT' students like yourself. I hope you meant to spell it correctly and say 'idiot' rather tha IDOT? sounds like some apple product.
ReplyDeleteIf you love this school so much, go post some reasons that could convince applicants to come here.
-Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell.
p.s. the negative comments about this school are usually true and they're more of what this school needs improvement on rather than this school sucking for it
p.p.s. the poll is would you RETURN to Exeter. A lot of students were encouraged or even forced by their parents to come here, and the poll asks if they would return if they had a choice.
Also, you could enjoy a life-changing experience but not want to go through it again. I'm extremely happy that I came here because I learned so much. But would I do four more years here? I don't think so. I'd definitely want my kids to come here though, but again, it's just for the one-time experience.
