The purpose of this site is for anonymous students, alumni, and/or faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy to openly and honestly discuss the Pros and Cons of their experience at this elite boarding school (whether it be one of love, hatred, pleasure, disappointment, or a mix of the four) in order to provide future applicants with more first-hand information about this school than what is simply stated on private school review websites. This website is under construction.
10... I usually have so much work that I dont have the time to do any extracurricular activity. graat site btw
ReplyDeleteProbably a 7-10, depending on the day. It also depends on what grade you're in, what classes you take, how smart you are at certain things (can you whip out a history paper or does it take you seven hours? math...etc.), and who your teachers are. I didn't have any homework last night because I got lucky, but that was unusual.
ReplyDeleteAnd to the above comment, you have to make time for extracurrics...
A constant 10. I rarely have time to do anything besides work and sleep, and it's making me miss out on some of the best years of my life. Not that Exeter's bad, and I have great experiences here in the dorms, the classroom, and the gym, but it's just not natural to have to work constantly.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm in my upper year, and I would say that it's pretty much an 8-10, depending. I love Exeter, but I won't lie, there are times when I feel absolutely crushed by work, and I end up sick, sleep-deprived, stressed, and irritable. It's not a great combination, but the time we spend on homework allows us to have the incredible intellectual classes that we have. It's not as if I didn't know what I was getting into, but at times I do feel very overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteI have not done more than an hour of work in my Exeter life. Classes are hard if you make them hard, but the teachers here are so full of themselves and the fact that they work at THE Phillips Exeter Academy that they can't even tell when you don't do any work. I'll throw out a little bit of advice for everyone:
ReplyDeleteDon't EVER do the English reading. Sparknotes is god and ignorance is even easier to bullshit.
Don't EVER do more than one math problem. Get there early, put it up on the board, sit down, copy down everything else.
Don't EVER do the history reading. Once you get to class, start a discussion about what people THINK about the one paragraph you read, and the class discussion will flow for a full 50 minutes.
Building off the previous post, it's unnecessary to even spend the time looking at Sparknotes before a class. Invest in an iphone, look the reading up in class, and read away. For class participation nuts, read out loud.
ReplyDeleteBack in '09 people had to consciously think about "investing" in an iphone
DeleteInterestingly, I've known some people who literally brought official Sparknotes textbooks to class and the English teacher encouraged that and made the student read out of it. What the?
ReplyDeleteYeah. I'm a day student, but since I actually DO LIGITIMATELY prepare for class, my life has become nothing but school and homework. You definitely have to be prepared for what you're getting into. It all evens out w/ the long vacations though!
ReplyDeletei don't think this blog is helpful at all.
ReplyDeletethe only reason people make blogs is to DRAW ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES, or have an OUTLET. this is both. it was already written up in the exonian, and everyone said it was neither good nor bad, just because they didn;t want challenge ppl who were sp[eaking the truth, even though THIS IS MOSTLY LIES.
personally, i think PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS AWESOME
and
THIS BLOG TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
from,
the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog
I think this 'rational person with a brain enough' is himself being irrational and pea-brained. How in the world is the administrator supposed to draw attention to hismelf ie he/she is anonymous? How can you show that this school's rep is getting trashed, when the polls clearly say that more people would return to Exeter than don't? And if you sift through the topics, most of the comments are optimistic and helpful rather than purposefully degrating. I think you yourself are the one that's CAUSING this blog to suck and you're the one who's giving the school a bad name because it proves that our school unfortunately houses 'IDOT' students like yourself. I hope you meant to spell it correctly and say 'idiot' rather tha IDOT? sounds like some apple product.
ReplyDeleteIf you love this school so much, go post some reasons that could convince applicants to come here.
-Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell.
p.s. the negative comments about this school are usually true and they're more of what this school needs improvement on rather than this school sucking for it
p.p.s. the poll is would you RETURN to Exeter. A lot of students were encouraged or even forced by their parents to come here, and the poll asks if they would return if they had a choice.
Also, you could enjoy a life-changing experience but not want to go through it again. I'm extremely happy that I came here because I learned so much. But would I do four more years here? I don't think so. I'd definitely want my kids to come here though, but again, it's just for the one-time experience.
the simple fact that you posted the above on every page makes you look foolish, but also makes the school look bad. for a second, lets all focus on how we say things instead of what is being said. regardless of your hatred level for this institution, if you cannot fabricate better sing-offs than "Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell" you should never have been accepted here. I am not a big fan of this place, but I understand and am proud of the collective intelligence of the academy's students. That said, many of the posts on this website reflect an overall inability to write and tarnish the school's reputation as a place for some of the brightest minds in America and the world. So... I am going to go ahead and ask that future posters think about how intelligent their post makes them look, that way a potential student that reads this website will say, "even though some of the students don't like it there very much, these kids sure do sound smart"
ReplyDeleteYea dont do the english reading but do the math-i tried to do 1 problem per term but i ended up sucking
ReplyDeleteIf you ever want to get an A in math, then I suggest that you do every problem first and foremost. And if that's impossible at least look at it. Then study before each test and I guarantee you'll get an A- to A.
