  1. One of the top facilities in the nation. We are very fortunate to have the Phelps Science Center and the money to do expensive labs many other schools cannot even afford.

  2. The weight room is in desperate need of a renovation, but, aside from that, the campus is really great. Dorm rooms are usually pretty small, but they're definitely livable.

  3. Yeah this school could definitely afford a new weight room. I do enjoy the new lifting area with the huge Exeeter Logo though.

And dorm rooms are small but I bet it's actually really nice compared to other boarding schools.

I think I would enjoy a new music/performance building. We would be able to combine it with the Fisher Theater which always seems to be out of sight.

  4. Exeter has outstanding facilities. The only building about which I can really complain, however, is Fisher Theatre. For a school of Exeter's caliber, the theatre is completely inadequate and it is unfortunately a drawback for many serious applicants who are otherwise enthralled by everything else amazing about Exeter. This is coming from somebody who doesn't even participate in theatre here and who absolutely loves Exeter, but the school needs to focus more on its arts.

  5. May I also piggyback on my above comment and say that the comment at 5:29 PM is blatantly uninformed. You strike me as someone who does not have a sound knowledge of the actual facilities on this campus. You say that we could have a new music building, when, in fact, we have a relatively new music building that is one of the nicest at any school, whereas the theatre (which you seem to have little knowledge of) is unsuitable for the needs of students.

  6. FYI to above poster 6:04PM,
Exeter is creating a concert hall within the next few years. My music teacher told me so a month back. Yes this music center is a great practice center but don't you realize all the concerts occur in either the cramped 'halls' of the music building, the church, or the assembly hall?

  7. As a student who is involved with theater, I am grateful for what we have and silently wish for things we don't. Before Exeter my middle school didn't even have a cafeteria and our "library" was three shelves of books in the back of our only English classroom; coming here to an amazing gym, a six-floor library, and a barn (whoops, I meant theater) was absolutely amazing. However, the arts at Exeter DO need huge improvement. We are way too much of an academic/athletic school; our arts offerings are very subpar.

  8. for anyone who reads these comments and comes away thinking exeter fails at the arts...
i'd like to remind you that it's just the facilities that could use improvement. the actual arts courses/faculty are fantastic all-around. the teachers are often somewhat eccentric, but that's to be expected anywhere.
the only aspect of exeter arts that desperately needs to revamped is dance. we NEED a new studio, and an expanded faculty wouldn't hurt either.

  9. agreed. there are are so many awesome theatre programs...not just the main stage productions, but opportunities for students to write and/or direct there own with student actors. the theatre could definitely look nicer, but it's at least functional.
as for dance, poles down the middle of the studio? really? i think that is more of an inconvenience than the theatre. the dance program could be broadened a little, as well. but what we have now is better than nothing.

  10. i don't think this blog is helpful at all.
the only reason people make blogs is to DRAW ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES, or have an OUTLET. this is both. it was already written up in the exonian, and everyone said it was neither good nor bad, just because they didn;t want challenge ppl who were sp[eaking the truth, even though THIS IS MOSTLY LIES.

personally, i think PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS AWESOME
    and
    THIS BLOG TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
    from,
the rational person with a brain enough to see when a great school's rep is getting trashed because a kid was bored one saturday night so he created a blog

  11. I think this 'rational person with a brain enough' is himself being irrational and pea-brained. How in the world is the administrator supposed to draw attention to hismelf ie he/she is anonymous? How can you show that this school's rep is getting trashed, when the polls clearly say that more people would return to Exeter than don't? And if you sift through the topics, most of the comments are optimistic and helpful rather than purposefully degrating. I think you yourself are the one that's CAUSING this blog to suck and you're the one who's giving the school a bad name because it proves that our school unfortunately houses 'IDOT' students like yourself. I hope you meant to spell it correctly and say 'idiot' rather tha IDOT? sounds like some apple product.

If you love this school so much, go post some reasons that could convince applicants to come here.

-Bigger brain than you because I can actually spell.

p.s. the negative comments about this school are usually true and they're more of what this school needs improvement on rather than this school sucking for it
p.p.s. the poll is would you RETURN to Exeter. A lot of students were encouraged or even forced by their parents to come here, and the poll asks if they would return if they had a choice.
Also, you could enjoy a life-changing experience but not want to go through it again. I'm extremely happy that I came here because I learned so much. But would I do four more years here? I don't think so. I'd definitely want my kids to come here though, but again, it's just for the one-time experience.
